Diagnosis can take years
Mental health conditions affect one billion people worldwide, but progress on improving diagnosis and treatment has been too slow for too long.
Diagnosis can take years
Treatments target symptoms, not underlying causes
Half of the prescribed drugs cause severe side effects
GlobalMinds aims to change this by creating the most in-depth mental health dataset in the world, powered by thousands of participants living with serious mental health conditions.
Thanks to our participants, researchers will be able to use this unique resource to help them make vital new discoveries.
These breakthroughs could unlock a new era of precision medicine for mental health conditions, where people get the right advice, tests or treatment, first time, based on their unique biology.
GlobalMinds extracts and analyses DNA and other biological information from saliva or blood donated to the study, and pairs this with responses to our questionnaire and data from the individual’s NHS health record.
These insights will be combined from tens of thousands of participants. The resulting dataset is a powerful tool for researchers to understand what influences the risks, development and severity of mental health conditions in each individual.
Researchers can apply to use the GlobalMinds resource. They will search for patterns and features of the data to reveal new information about the links between genes, background, biology and mental health.
GlobalMinds could help find the answers to research questions like:
How do our genes affect our risk of developing these conditions?
How can we predict and reduce this risk for people in the future?
How can we improve the way these conditions are detected and diagnosed?
How can we treat the underlying the causes of these conditions?
How can we make sure each person gets the right treatment, first time?
Your privacy is important to us, and we will take the greatest care with your personal data.
Participant data will be stored and handled securely, in line with data protection laws and the latest security standards.
Researchers will never have access to any information that could identify participants.
